This alternate illustration expands on the theme of old Karachi by introducing human presence into the scene. The figures—street vendors and passersby—bring scale, movement, and everyday life to the historic architecture, transforming the setting from a static memory into a lived experience. The simplified, graphic style maintains a nostalgic tone while highlighting the rhythm of daily routines that define the city’s identity. This experiment explores how people anchor place, turning architecture into a story of community and continuity.

This illustration further develops the Old Karachi series, with the architecture entirely hand-drawn to closely study and reinterpret the building’s form and details. Drawing the structure from scratch allowed for greater control over proportion, rhythm, and character, while maintaining a simplified, graphic style. The added figures and street elements bring life and scale to the scene, highlighting the relationship between the city’s historic architecture and the everyday lives that continue to move through it.
